I was shooting a charity event, and the bassist from the live entertainment reminded me of Kim Deal (Pixies / The Breeders).
I greatly admire her work, talent, and also how she made her first steps toward her rise to notoriety.
Pixies advertised for a bassist, and though she was actually a guitarist she auditioned (with her sisters bass).
She went on to also be a fantastic writer, and lead vocalist, which is how I discovered her (via two songs I’ve included below).
I feel she deserves a spot on the “Rolling Stone Readers Pick the Top Ten Bassists of All Time“, but can’t disagree with these choices either: John Entwistle, Flea, Paul McCartney, Geddy Lee, Les Claypool, John Paul Jones, Jaco Pastorius, Jack Bruce, Cliff Burton, and Victor Wooten.
